Every day people post on X that their tool got too expensive, or ask what everyone else is using. X lead generation is the habit of finding those posts while they are fresh and replying with something useful.
What a lead looks like on X
The same three signals apply here as on Reddit, only shorter and faster.
- Asking for a tool. “Can anyone recommend a CRM that doesn’t cost a fortune?”
- Fed up with a competitor. “Our HubSpot renewal just doubled. I’m done, what are people switching to?”
- Choosing between options. “Trying to choose between two simpler tools this week.”
Posts on X move quickly. A question that is an hour old is still open. A question from last week has usually been answered.
Search operators that find buyers
X search accepts operators in the normal search box. Switch to the Latest tab so you see new posts first.
"recommend a" crm ?finds posts that contain the phrase and a question mark."alternative to" hubspot -filter:linksremoves posts with links, which cuts most promotion."switching from" OR "moving off" salesforcecatches people who are leaving a competitor."looking for" invoicing tool -filter:replies lang:enkeeps original posts in English only.hubspot (pricing OR expensive OR renewal) since:2026-10-01narrows complaints to recent ones.
Save the searches that work and check them daily. Expect to tune them: the first version of any search is mostly noise.
How to reply so people answer back
- Reply in public first. A cold DM to a stranger is easy to ignore. A helpful reply is not.
- Be specific to their post. Mention their team size or the tool they named. One sentence that proves you read it beats a paragraph that could go anywhere.
- Say that it is yours. Disclose that you built the product you are suggesting.
- Leave the link for later. Offer to share it, or put it in a follow-up reply once they respond.
- Never repeat a reply. Identical replies across posts look like spam to readers and to the platform.
Where it breaks down
Keyword search on X returns far more jokes, promotion and passing mentions than real questions. Sorting through them every day is the slow part, and the good posts are only good for a few hours.
Letting software do the reading
GetLeadIntent reads new posts on X and Reddit around the clock and keeps only the ones that show real intent. Each lead comes with the original post, the reason it was flagged and a reply you can edit. You send it from your own account. Nothing is posted for you.

Questions
Is X (Twitter) good for B2B lead generation?
It is good for catching people at the moment they ask. Founders and operators post questions such as “what are people switching to?” in public, and anyone can reply. It is weaker than Reddit for long, detailed threads.
Do I need a large following to get leads on X?
No. Replies are shown under the original post regardless of your follower count. A specific, helpful reply to a fresh question gets read by the person who asked.
Should I reply in public or send a DM?
Reply in public first. It is expected, other people with the same problem see it, and it gives the person a reason to open a DM with you.
Can I automate replies on X?
Automate the searching, not the replying. Generic automated replies are easy to spot and put your account at risk. Edit each reply and send it yourself.
